How to Take Screen Shots of Context Menus on Mac

Capturing a right-click menu or a dropdown can be tricky because as soon as you hit a key, the menu often closes.

1. The Timer Method (Easiest)

1. Press Cmd + Shift + 5.
2. Click Options.
3. Select 5 Seconds or 10 Seconds.
4. Click Capture Portion.
5. Open your menu and wait for the countdown to end.

2. The Keyboard Sequence

1. Press Cmd + Shift + 4.
2. Open your menu.
3. Move your crosshair and release to capture. Note: This works for some apps but not all system menus.

3. The Escape Trick

If you are in the middle of a Cmd + Shift + 4 capture and want to abort because the menu closed, just hit Esc.
